Day 4: Moving on to Revelstoke
One goal for this trip is to avoid sleeping in on drive days. We managed to get the kids out of bed by 8 a.m. and enjoyed a slower morning, but still had a timely departure.
There are two ways around Okanagan Lake: Highway 97 on the east side and the much smaller, windier Westside road… on the west side. Because we were staying on the west side of the lake, north of town, we decided on the smaller road, which was tougher to drive, but SO beautiful and totally worth it. We even saw a family of bighorn sheep along the side of the road.

We have started using the GuideAlong app, which provides interesting tidbits to spice up the drive. We are mixing that in with music and and podcasts. Podcasts are really only doable on smoother, flat road days, otherwise the road noise and/or engine noise makes the audio difficult to understand.

Our one road stop today was The site of the Last Spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Craigellachie, BC. As we got there a train was driving by making it a full experience. We took some pictures and noted that the the yellow painted spike is approximately at the location of the last spike. The woman working at the gift shop informed us that the original spike itself is now in a museum.

The final destination was Lamplighter Campground in Revelstoke. This town is surrounded by huge mountains and gives us a bit of a Jackson Hole vibe. Once we were settled into the campground, we headed to town to check it out. After dinner back at the RV we had another round of Smore’s, as we know once we leave here, the campsites for the next 10 days don’t allow campfires.

Finally, we ended the night with a call into Cooper’s baseball team meeting with their new coach. Technology and friends are amazing (thanks, Chisato); they helped us participate even from the road.
Cooper and Kelly opted for campground showers while Rob and Nicholas opted for RV showers. It is nice to have both options.
