Day 1: Another RV Summer Adventure Begins

We have just kicked off our 4th RV adventure since we started this crazy idea during COVID. To say we are more comfortable and thus really winging it would be an understatement: we started packing up the RV with only 48 hours before we were planning to leave.

Today’s desired departure time was 10 a.m. and we left at 1:30 p.m. Not too bad considering how late we started packing. It was a bit of an eventful start, placing our first roadtrip call to 911 for some dangerous driving near Gold Bar. A Miata would race into oncoming traffic making them stop to pass many cars at a time and then pull over to let everyone pass and repeat this over and over.

We made it through the mountain pass and into the bavarian town of Leavenworth where Rob took over driving for a bit.

Our finally destination was Omak, WA at the Carl Precht Memorial RV Park. The boys headed out for some baseball and frisbee while we cooked dinner (quesadillas and bagged salad). The sites are a bit close, so we dined at an unoccupied picnic table a few sites away.

For our post-dinner walk we headed to the river where we saw this lit steep hill. We were stumped and then a local came over and gave us the lowdown. At the Omak stampede every year in August, 20-30 people race down the hill on horseback, ride through the river and then race into the stadium near the campground.

So glad we left on Friday instead of Saturday, allowing us to spread what would have been a very long first drive day across two, as today already felt like a very long day.
