Day 49: More Beauty in New England
It was going to be a short drive day (less than two hours), so Kelly took the boys to get some wiggles out at the Basin Cascade Trail to Kinsman Falls before we took off. The Basin was spectacular; we wish we could come back another time to play in the water for hours.

Once we got on the road, we hit a small snag. The plan could have been to drive on mostly interstate highways, but with construction shutting it down, we chose the side roads instead. It turned out to be a great reminder of what a privilege it is to travel through charming small towns, past adorable homes, farms, old cemeteries, and gorgeous scenery. Every backroad trip we’ve taken across the country has left us impressed.
Kelly might have benefitted from a longer pause before making one particular turn, because before she knew it, we were on a dirt, local-access-only road. Changing directions meant unhooking the tow car and backing up the whole rig. Still, it’s only the second time in all our travels that we’ve had to disconnect due to a bad road choice, so we’ll count that as a win.

With the short drive and Rob working, we needed more adventures to get us out of the RV. We had heard great things about VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science), a bird education center. We attended an informational show and saw many of the birds during their feeding time. They even had a tree walk that brought us up to the tops of the forest.

A wild raven wanted to be in the cage with the pair of impaired ravens. They were so chatty with the visitor.

The original plan was the King Arthur Community Pizza Night, but they were sold out when we arrived. Rob saved the evening finding Ramunto’s Hanover Brick and Brew, which had a garlic knotted crust pizza that was AMAZING.

We all enjoyed a brief walk around the Dartmouth campus before heading home.
