Day 62: Indiana Dunes
The rest area accommodations worked out fairly well, with most of us getting a good night’s rest. Rob and the kids are now obsessed with getting more Tim Horton’s donuts. Once they learned there was one at the next exit, we had breakfast plans locked in.

Thanks to the big push yesterday, we had less than two hours of driving ahead of us, plus we gained an hour from crossing into the Central time zone. After we arrived at the Dunewood Campground, Rob started working and Kelly and the boys explored the visitor center and walked the Great Marsh Trail before heading back to get Rob.

Once all together, we hit the dunes and beach. It was a windy day and the waves were big. It still blows our mind that a lake can look like the ocean. We enjoyed family time in the sand and then headed back for bike riding/walking while Rob finished up his work day.

Despite not having hookups, the campground does have unlimited hot showers. A highlight for Kelly was a warm shower, alone, without any questions–it was AMAZING. Once back, Rob reported that the hot water was actually limited, meaning the rest of us had used it all up. Whoops. He takes pretty cool showers so it happened to the right one of us.
Since the bugs were out in force, we stayed in the RV for dinner and a round of family games. We’re teaching the boys how to play Pinochle, just like Kelly once learned on a Yellowstone RV trip with her grandparents. It’s fun to keep that tradition going.
