Day 35: Cramming NYC Into a Day
We tried to accomplish the impossible and see New York City in a day. We’d actually considered skipping it altogether given the limited time we’d have, but our route went right through the city, and we thought it’d be fun to give the kids a taste.
We started by taking the subway up to Central Park and hit some noteworthy places: Bow Bridge and the Belvedere Castle. The kids loved taking the subway and wanted to do it as much as possible.

Next up was going to be a walk to Times Square, but we decided to get food instead and stopped by the Google office Rob has visited several times. It was so nice to have the A/C break. Once our bellies were full and we soaked in the views from the terraces, we took the train back up to Times Square and Rockefeller Center.

Seeing the World Trade Center memorials was an important stop for us (none of us had been). We followed that up with a walk to Wall Street and a view of the Statue of Liberty from Battery Park.

Finally, we took a NYC ferry back to our campsite, going under the Brooklyn bridge. There’s so much activity in the air, on land, and in the water.

We even got to see our RV from the water.

Dinner was in camp chairs at the RV site watching the sunset over this beautiful city. It was a 25k+ step day for everyone, so we should sleep well tonight.

Random tidbit… Ever taken a shower in a porta potty? We have now. At this RV park, the toilets are in a separate, plumbed building—but the showers are in these units. Thankfully, it’s just a shower head inside—no toilet involved.
