Day 33: A Phantastic day in Philly

With an agenda mixup by Kelly months ago, she had scheduled Rob to work during our one day in Philadelphia. We made the most of it, having him join us for the Independence Hall tour and a quick peek at the Liberty Bell before heading off to work at a coworking space nearby.

The boys and Kelly did a two-hour long historic tour of Philadelphia. First stop was the original Supreme Court that was moved to Philly for 10 years after a year in NY and before moving to Washington, D.C.

The tour guide did some role playing, assigning the boys to be key people that signed the Constitution or Declaration of Independence. Cooper was Thomas Jefferson, and Nicholas was Alexander Hamilton.

After the tour we felt it critical to enjoy a Philly cheese steak in Philly. Sonny’s was a winner!

We found arguably the G.O.A.T. mascot at the visitor center.

We wrapped up the day with a tour of the U.S. Mint. The facility wasn’t too active, but they had great videos, and we were able to see a blank making machine in action. In the gift shop they had uncirculated quarters in the change machines, so we opted to get the joyous Vegas slots feeling there, procuring our next round of laundry money.

Cooper had wanted to spend more time reading the information at the Liberty Bell, so when the line was shorter we took advantage. The ranger onsite also shared that if we got closer we can see the entire crack in the bell and not just the larger repair work. It starts at “And” and goes up through “The” and “Liberty.”

We wrapped up our city time walking through the Reading Terminal Market, where we met up with Rob, and then walked to the super-close Trader Joe’s to restock the RV.

Triggered by the fact that for the next five days we’ll have only electric hookups (no water or sewer connections), the evening ended with lots of adulting: changing sheets, laundry, mopping, and washing dishes and water bottles–all the things.
