A Chapter Closed

Last night we took Winnie to the gas station for one last time as a family. Rob and I got all the paperwork lined up to ensure a smooth sale. It was also time to find the items that made our trip that much smoother and include them as a kind gift to the next family for their adventure.

Negotiating the sale of the RV while working on the airplane

Lacey, WA was my meet up spot and it was definitely an eerie drive without the sounds of our family talking and singing while driving a very empty RV.

Success unhitching the tow car and then headed back home. It has been nice to get our driveway back and remember all the fun we had with Winnie.

Winnie with her new family

Within a few more days we had the tow car sold. A couple from Tacoma bought it to go along with their recent RV purchase. They paid in cash which was the most any of us had ever seen before. All the hard work to get both the RV and car ready for selling within 48 hours of getting home paid off as we were lucky enough to sell both for what we had paid for them originally. We never anticipated “breaking even” after this adventure, but it was a pleasant surprise in the end.

Just a few stats from our year with Winnie:

  • Owned Winnie: August 2020-August 2021
  • Traveled through 27 States
  • Visited 17 National Parks
  • Drove 13,842 miles
  • Stayed 140+ nights in the RV
  • Hiked and biked 100+ miles
  • Made 1,000s of memories!

If anyone reading this wants to visit any of the areas we did, let me save you hours of research and share all the resources and ideas we found along the way. It can at least be a starting place for your own adventure. We can’t recommend it enough. What an incredible experience to get to see and explore so much together as a family. We feel very fortunate!
