Day 27: Destination Jackson

We woke up to enjoy some more horses munching on the grass between sites. After breakfast, we took a quick walk around the campground before getting on the road again.

Today’s destination is Jackson, Wyoming, just two hours away. Today’s drive, all done by Rob, was a wonderful one. Roads were pretty straight, smooth, and it wasn’t windy all, making for a very nice drive. We are very fortunate that Rob’s parents spend the summers in Jackson, so we’ve been able to visit every summer for the past 10 years.

Silliness with the excitement building to get to see Nana and Pop-Pop

There is a really nice mountain road that follows the river as it approaches the south side of town. We saw lots of deer, cows, and horses along the way.

Once in town, it took some time, but we found street parking for our rolling house and enjoyed a lunch at Snake River Brewery with Rob’s parents. Nicholas obliged to take his annual “coaster on his head” photo at the brewery, and we all enjoyed the yummy food and beer. The kids, especially Cooper, have been talking for weeks about how excited they are to visit Jackson to see Nana and Pop-Pop and meet their new dog George.

After lunch his parents took the boys back to their house while Rob and I figured out if we could get the RV up the switchbacks and through the tight turns on their hill. We’ve been talking about this for weeks. I thought there was no way it would work, but Rob believed we could. I lost the bet; we made it up the hill with only one 3-point turn, and he even pulled off a 5-point turn to get the RV backed into their driveway. We both agreed it went much smoother than either of us thought it could have.

Meeting George for the first time
Winnie made it to their driveway!

We unpacked into their house while the kids enjoyed hours of TV watching with Nana. Meeting George was just as cool as we expected, and he seems to handle the chaos we bring with us just fine. Pop-pop cooked us his famous ribs, which we ate out on their deck. Being outside in cooler temperatures again has felt amazing!

George is a super fan

The night ended with Nana-sized scoops of ice cream which the boys LOVED.
