Day 91: Headed to Santa Cruz

Morning calls were again done at the campground, so much better than trying to help with calls while driving at the same time. Today’s project for Nicholas was to make a mask. It was fascinating to see his interpretation of the assignment. He thought through all the details, down to the adjustable sizing with the popsicle stick and comfort rubber bands to wrap around the ears. Until this year, the interpretation of “make a mask” would probably mean something for your eyes.

We made the quick 30 minute drive to the Elkhorn Slough parking lot to take calls and for a mid-afternoon kayak adventure. We were able to see sea otters and jellyfish right off the dock, but also got to take a closer look once we hopped in the kayak. During the kayak trip both boys decided to flip around in the kayak, so I was the lucky one who got to be paddle backwards and looked to be facing the wrong way.

The jellyfish ranged from the size of sand dollars to frisbees.

Once the work and school calls were wrapped up, we headed up to my sister’s house in Santa Cruz. Seeing their cousins has been one of the stops the boys have looked forward to the most on this entire trip.

Another sunset drive
They even marked off a parking area just for us.

Ending the last full week on this trip at my sister’s house with family is so bucket-filling. We are looking forward to a whole weekend of family time (and more hot showers).
