Day 67: Double Beach Day

We took full advantage of moving campgrounds just 20 minutes apart today, going to one beach in the morning and another beach in the afternoon.

A huge dragonfly, our morning visitor before the bike ride

First beach stop was the one at Topsail Preserve. We had a very unfazed heron that hung out just feet from us nearly the entire time we were there. The boys loved the unique shelf the ocean waves had carved out and spent most of the time digging out caves in it. After a little sand football of course; it is the new beach go to activity.

Crabbing success!

As we were packing up from the first site I noticed some peeling paint on the bike rack going into the hitch. When we went to look at it more closely we realized that the bike rack was a mere inch from coming out completely. That could have been a big disaster for our bikes, let alone anyone following behind us on the road. We can’t remember the last time we installed it as we usually just leave it on at campsites, but I am pretty sure it was me who did it last. Needless to say, we were able to get it in and have it tightened better with us both working on it together, and we will keep a closer eye on it before we hit the road each time in the future.

After the school day we hit our next stop: Henderson Beach State Park. More digging, wave fun, and even a rainbow.

  1. Those beaches look beautiful! Glad weather is cooperating for some good family time! Nice catch on the bike rack…we had a similar problem with ours where it didn’t lock into position and flipped down when we were driving!
