Day 55: The Big Splurge

Today we left our beautiful water campsite to stay for a single night at another beautiful campsite on the water. This site was nearly $120, the most expensive one so far by a long shot. The splurge was for a waterfront site with full hookups (real showers) and laundry, neither of which we don’t have in the state parks we’re staying at before and after this. The cost is pretty typical for a private campground down here. Our state park sites here are closer to $40, which is why they’re so difficult to book.

Today was the first time moving campgrounds without hooking up the tow car, since the new site was only 30 minutes away. We thought the boys would like to have 1:1 time and ride separate, but they both opted to ride in the car with me instead. It was a fun view to get to drive behind the RV I driven all the way here.

This place came with two lounge chairs that were put to quick use

Once settled in, we went for a family walk and saw this adult green iguana. It was huge–at least 3 feet long!

A little later I went to check out the laundry and noticed the “pool closed” sign was now gone. I mentioned it to the boys, and they were both in for 20 minutes of pre-school swimming to kick off the day. It was Nicholas’ first time going “top off” as Cooper calls it. They usually wear long sleeve swim shirts so I have less to sunscreen, but with the short time we skipped sunscreen and tops. It was an eye-opening view into just how strong their farmer tan game is right now.

Rob enjoyed a morning of working from under the grass umbrella, and we then had lunch there as a family, with an amazing view.

Nicholas had to do some problem solving this afternoon, figuring out how to get a wine cork out of the water that he’d “accidentally” thrown in. I am sure this was quite the sight Rob came back to, not knowing what we were doing.

The afternoon was full of work, school, and laundry. At the boys’ school they have added “STEM projects,” and both boys are really loving it. Today Cooper built a maze and Nicholas an airplane.

We got outside to enjoy another dinner at our picnic table. This place is really beautiful, but it was also my first introduction to no-see-um bugs. They are tiny, flying, biting bugs, that are hard to distinguish from freckles when you look for them. Fingers crossed it is unique to this location.

  1. Amaze balls!! Looks like you had the pool to yourselves and dinner right on the beach too! Hope you’re loving Florida, take notes so I can go too!

  2. I have binge read your whole blog after only reading a few random ones from time to time. Absolutely love all of it, and this post particularly! It’s such an amazing adventure you are all on, and one the boys will remember forever. ♥️

Also, I feel you so hard on all of the virtual learning struggles. I giggled at the end with the STEM projects crafted from Amazon boxes – that is so us too!

    1. Thanks, Michelle! It has been a crazy ride. Looking forward to catching up again when we are back. Hugs to you and your family.
