Day 44: Biking and Ice Cream, Always a Win

With six nights in a row at Acadia, this was supposed to be a relaxing stretch of the trip. However, with so much to see we’ve been doing multiple activities every day. Maybe we can slow down in a couple days?

We love these kids. Last night we mentioned a 12-mile bike ride on the Tri Lakes Loop and neither kid complained. They’re big fans of bike rides, but at this point in the trip they also know we’re going to do it anyway, so the resistance has definitely reduced.

It’s pretty hilly, though the hills are mostly gradual. At our first pit stop Nicholas decided he needed a bit more height, so he started climbing above Jordan Lake, which we walked around yesterday.

We rode by this house with really nice and interesting brickwork.

We had some Frogger-like activities at our lunch stop, and we’re happy to report no one fell in. Speaking of frogs, the water here is full of really large tadpoles, many with legs showing.

This route was entirely on an old gravel carriage path, so very flat and wide. The guys were much more comfortable with speed on the gravel than Kelly

The guys were actually ahead most of the ride.

As we pulled back into the parking lot, Nicholas said “What, we are done?”. The miles really flew by for all of us. It was a beautiful ride and lunch stop.

We opted to stop in town for a bit and grab some ice cream on our way home, just like Obama.

We stopped in a local grocery store, where Nicholas was fascinated by the packaged lobsters.

We had to squeeze in one more adventure, so we headed back to the park to check out Thunder Hole at high tide, which is supposed to make some impressive sounds. The views were spectacular on our hike from Otter Point to get there, but Thunder Hole not so much. it was likely due to the super-calm water. Oh, well. At least there were tons of people.
