Day 43: Low Tide and Popovers

Bar Island is reachable by land only for about three hours during low tide. We got there a little early and saw a large group standing around. As we got closer, we noticed the gravel bar wasn’t completely uncovered yet. Rob was the hero, finding a relatively dry path through, after which everyone quickly funneled in behind him. It was pretty hilarious to watch.

We opted to hike to the top of the island, then walk back a bit along the water. Low tide uncovered so many snails and a few crabs on the gravel.

The day before during our drive around the park loop, we’d stopped by Jordon Pond House to check out the wait time for their famous popovers. It was 30 minutes, so we skipped it, but the hostess let us make a lunch reservation for today even though it’s booked out for weeks online.

Lunch was a splurge, but such an enjoyable experience, we were glad we did it. We also learned just how crazy parking and the crowds can be in the park. People were circling all over the place, but luckily we found a spot after about 10 minutes.

After lunch we did the 3.3 mile hike around Jordon Pond. It had a cool split long section, some stone bouldering, and the remaining half was gravel. It was the perfect post-lunch hike, with a nice view of the Bubbles from our hike the day before.

Once back at the RV we chilled for a bit before heading to the pool for family swim time. The boys love how much fun Rob is in the pool; he was literally launching Nicholas off the inflatable mattress, which thrilled Nicholas. We then did some some family keep-away pool football before heading back to the RV for dinner.
