Day 1: On The Road Again!
Departure day! After Nicholas’ 5th grade graduation and Cooper’s last day as a 7th grader, we hit the road to start our 71-day adventure across the country to Maine and back.

To let them both enjoy as much of their last day as possible, we didn’t pick them up until 2:20pm, and then finally hit the road at 3pm. Dear friends came over to say goodbye and see us off. 3pm departure also meant that we hit a TON of traffic, adding an hour+ to our predicted 5.5 hour drive time to our first stop.

After Rob initially sat up front to ensure all was running smoothly, Nicholas kicked off the journey as Kelly’s front seat buddy where we were quickly reminded of the “push” out of the lane that we get each time a semi passes by. At the 3.5 hour point Rob took over with Cooper as his driving buddy and they navigated the crazy winds of Vantage.
To keep us moving, dinner tonight was cold tortillas, string cheese, apples and protein bars while we were driving. Later entertainment was singing to the songs selected by the kid DJs. Rob really rallied for us and pushed to get us all the way to the Cabela’s parking lot in Post Falls, ID despite our traffic delay. We pulled into the parking lot at 10pm and were in bed by 11pm.
