Day 13: Kaikoura: Dusky Dolphins
The sea was a bit rough, but the dusky dolphins were plentiful. This was the kids’ first time in a wet suit and the first time swimming with dolphins for all of us.
So cool to hear their noises and watch their acrobatics. We all decided we actually preferred watching the dolphins from the boat over swimming with them, but glad we took advantage of the opportunity to swim.
The highlight for Nicholas was counting a dolphin doing backflips (15 in a row), but he also loved riding the big waves back to the marina. Rob loved getting into the water with the dolphins. The Dramamine helped all of us enjoy the experience, but Cooper still wasn’t feeling too hot on the boat ride back.
After the trip, we headed back to the hotel for a minute, then walked across the street to the beach for some fun exploring and rock throwing/skipping.
