Day 79: On the Road to San Antonio

After three nights at Nana and Pop-Pop’s, we left after breakfast Sunday morning, but not before a little early morning TV relaxing first, followed by more doggie snuggles, and a family photo.

Our black tank sensor was reading full when it had been barely used, so we are trying the “ice trick” today. Supposedly if you put ice down the black tank it will help knock things loose as you drive around. The boys loved flushing the ice and Rob took one for the team when he had to stick his arm in there to break up the partially refrozen ice in the toilet bowl, since we didn’t flush it right away. Oops.

Since it was the weekend, Rob did the three hours of driving today to San Antonio. On the way we did make our final Buc-ee’s stop as the kids, especially Nicholas, are obsessed. We knew there was only one left on our route, so we granted their wish. This stop included picking up the same lunch food that we had the first time since it was such a hit.

This was the first time so far on the trip the boys got out the games bin to help stay entertained while we drove. They played some War and then opted to turn the game boxes and tins into “computers” to send messages to each other. Their creativity is so much fun to watch and participate in.

We opted to go straight to the RV park and then take the car to the city. The boys’ eyes got huge during our check-in, when they noticed the pool was open. We hit the pool first thing while Rob finished doing the hookups, and he joined us at the pool a little later. At 70 degrees outside and a slightly warmed pool, Rob and I both passed again on joining the kids in the pool.

We hit the city and first visited the Alamo. It was interesting to learn the history and see some of the buildings.

Next we headed to the river walk. It was so cool to see all the water flowing through the city in the form of waterfalls and fountains to get down to the river walk. Our timing let us see it in the daylight and at night, which was great for viewing the Christmas lights. There were clusters of people walking around, so we wore masks the whole time and opted for dinner back at the RV.

Rob’s dad had sent a recommendation for Pollos Asados Los NorteƱos, so we picked that up on our way home. We had the chicken, and the boys opted for burgers. We all enjoyed some s’mores to cap off the night.
