Day 41: Hello, Florida!
We left Savannah for the three hour drive to Florida, for our first of many weeks there. The drive was pretty uneventful, though we did see three wild pigs on the side the highway and lots of beautiful marshes.
We made a pit stop in Jacksonville so the kids and Rob could do some calls. After the kids’ morning calls, the boys and I headed to downtown Jacksonville to do a candy tour at Sweet Pete’s. The tour was small, but it was interesting to hear the history and see some of the work happening. The highlight was getting to design our own candy bar and get it made.
After the tour we headed back to meet up with Rob and get back on the road. We tried to buy some shoes at the mall where we were stopped, but they weren’t what we were looking for. When we got back, we learned Rob had quite the time by himself while we were gone, enjoying both a shower and “snack” from the nearby Wing Stop. Fortunately there were still a few left for the boys to enjoy too.
We hit some Friday traffic when entering St. Augustine, or maybe it is always like that? As luck would have it, when we were crossing over the Bridge of Lions, they raised the drawbridge, and we were first in line.
We all gathered at the front of the RV to watch the lifting process and enjoyed checking out the ridiculous boats in the harbor below us. Having the RV affords us amazing views from up high and outside our huge front windshield.
A short drive later we arrived at the jungle-like campground of Anastasia State Park.
