Day 37: Sunday, Beach Day
We heard a thud in the middle of the night. Cooper fell out of his bed, a 4 foot drop! This morning during our family snuggle time he mentioned his knee hurt. He has no memory of falling out of bed and fortunately didn’t mention his knee again the rest of the day, but yikes, poor guy!
We spent most of the day at the beach. These boys still can’t get enough wave jumping. They’ve even invented their own wave categories, including “surfer waves” and “hidden waves.” Nicholas loves holding hands and insists on being on your left side. Despite the hand-holding, we’ve seen a huge confidence boost playing in the ocean, which has been so fun to watch! While jumping in the waves with Rob, Cooper told him he wants to RV full-time, and when Rob shared that at some point school will start up again, Nicholas offered that they can do Lexia (online reading/writing program) instead.
When not in the waves, they love digging in the sand with their shovels. We have upgraded to real shovels, which means huge progress in moving sand. Today’s digging theme was a trench to protect our beach blanket from unwanted waves. It was like a fire line that we have been talking about recently with all the west coast fires.
After getting cleaned up from the beach we headed out to the wildlife viewing area and boardwalk. The first was a bust, so we didn’t even get out of the car, but the second ended up being really fun. The expansive marsh views were incredible. The boys loved watching the little crabs coming out of their holes in the sand.
We got home for our second round of campfire hotdogs, which were of course followed by s’mores (session #9 of the trip). Rob wanted to use fire starters to get the fire going tonight, but the boys and I decided to take on the challenge. They expertly picked out dead palm fronds as the base of the fire and we were golden! Another great night on this RV adventure.
