Day 14: A “Redo” Kind of Day

Today was just one of those days that we are all glad is behind us. The morning transition to starting school was horrendous, and that vibe lingered throughout the day. Our Internet access at this KOA is very poor, despite having Wifi and multiple cell connections. It was the Friday of the first full week of school, and having bad call quality makes it even harder to focus.

One of the day’s highs was getting three loads of laundry done, including the sheets. What a treat! We did get a knock on our RV door from an employee carrying a handful of our laundry, which we must have missed inside one of the driers. We are still down a sock, but fingers crossed it will still show up somewhere. This was a reminder that we need to be WAY more thorough when doing laundry at a campground, especially when doing it with little helpers. You only need to have a stranger bring you your undies once to remember that lesson.

We visited the Badlands Visitor Center to collect our Junior Ranger packets, badge #3, and commemorative National Park coin. Nicholas found a stuffed Prairie Dog, which he happily purchased with some of his money the grandparents gave him for the trip.

Cooper and I ended the day with an incredible, bucket-filling hike. We returned in time for family dinner, and then we all headed to bed for some much needed rest.

A first: after the half-mile round trip hike on the Window Trail, Cooper said it was too short and we needed to do more. I never thought the day would come when a hike was too short for him.
