Day 10: Custer State Park

Rush hour on the Wildlife Loop

We scored big time, visiting a place just after our friends the Baers have been there. Nicole had done hours of research and happily shared the best of the best with us.

We started off the morning driving the wildlife loop, to explore a little before the work and school day started. It didn’t disappoint. We started off seeing a couple of solo bison and then passed the herd with hundreds just off the side of the road.

Along the 1.5 hour loop we also saw some donkeys and pronghorns.

After school in the morning, we decided to take the afternoon work period as an afternoon to dig at the beach instead. Legion Lake was just across the road from our campground.

Both boys love digging and making a “hot tub” is one of their go-to ideas. Cooper is also loving the chance to go “top off.”

After dinner, more s’mores! Also, some bug zapping.

The kids weren’t ready for bed yet, so we took a family bike ride to Legion Lake to show Rob the hot tub and animal prints we found in the sand.

They’ll do anything to avoid bedtime.
